1st Week in Mexico

Hello Family,

Thanks for all the emails they were massive and I only have 40 minutes on here so I read them super fast. Forgive me if I miss something.

Well, the first week is past... it was a rough week... We are in 7 Gotas here in Culiacan and we are teaching up a storm. We have taught a ton of lessons and we have got one new baptism date and there are 5 people that have a bautismo date right now, so yeah, we will see what happens.

My companion is Elder Martinez. He is from Mexico somewhere - I don't really know but he is a cool dude. He doesn't speak any English, so yeah, it is only spanish for me. I love him though and he helps me out a lot and has a ton of patience with me.

We just moved into a new house. It is pretty sweet and yeah, we have been working hard. I drop into bed around 10 or as early as I can so that I can get enough rest. In the MTC I wasn't able to fall asleep fast but here, I fall asleep within like 10 minutes - it is sweet.

It is very hot here and I sweat every second of the day. Even when it is raining or cloudy it is freaking way, way hot but it is alright. I am loving it here though.

I can only email you guys so I'm going to send another one that if you could just forward it over to Lexie then that would be great.

Conference weekend was kind of rough on me. I missed the family just cuz i know you guys were having breakfast and all, but I got over it fast. And yes, I got to listen to it in English because there is like 7 English missionaries in this area and so they put a tv in one of the rooms of the church and we got to listen to it in English. I liked the talks they were very good. But yeah, it was pretty rough on me, but, oh well.

The language... wow. I don't really undertand a thing and when I don't I just say "mande?" So i say that alot. People have patience with me so that is good. The food here is amazing. Everything that I have had has been great! Very spicy stuff but it is legit. I haven't gotten sick yet - which is good - but yeah, when it comes to solid poops I havent had one since the night we stayed at the presidents house (ha ha). But it is good.

They have it set up here that the first visit or contact we teach is called Charla 1. it is about prophets and what not. So we just memorize that. I know it is crazy that we just memorize it instead of teach by the spirit, but we teach that then we give them a pamphlet and then when we come back that is where we get a baptism date and we teach Charla 2, about the Plan of Salvation. We have taught Charla 1 a lot. I have some of it down and then Charla 2, I also have some of it down. but it is going good here.

Two of the missionaries in my district from the MTC are over in La Paz which is in the Baja. Two others down south by Mazatlan called Los Mochis. One up north and then me, in Culiacan. Sorry this keyboard in the cyber place is all messed up.

The people here are very loving and they live in very humble circumstances. I already love the people here. They all have dumps for houses but it doesn't matter when they listen to you so that is good. I dont care really about their houses anymore.

It sounds like the family is doing good. I hope I answered all of the questions that you had. Who my comp is and what not. I can't figure out how to attach photos but I will. I thnk that is it from here for this week.

I love you all!!!!!

South of the Border

Well, it's been a while since I updated this blog. For a couple of weeks I was unable to copy/paste Chris' letters here - not sure why - but that isn't the case any longer. I've posted them all now.

We got a phone call yesterday morning at 4:45 from Chris, at the SLC airport. He was leaving for Mexico. We all talked for a little while and it was very fun. Chelsey noticed the same thing I did. When I made the comment that he sounded very good, she said, "Yeah, he doesn't mumble any more." Things seem to be going good for him.

He sent two quick emails last night after arriving in Culiacan. They follow...

Hey family,

Just writing you a quick email telling you i got here safe. It was a long day but i made it through it. My p-days are on monday so you will hear from me then. I love you all.

Elder Harvey

... and this one ...

Hey,

Also when you send mail it has to be my full name on it and stuff. Here is the address:

Rio Choix #888
Col. Rosales, Culiacan, Sinaloa

Mexico

Tell Lex i am here safe too.

I'm very interested to hear how his first week/companion/area goes...

Last Letter From The MTC

Bueno Hola Familia,

It sounds like everything is going well for the family and the family is busy like always. Tell katie congratulations on the starting position that is a sweet thing. I only got one email this week and one letter this week from lexie so that is a kind of preperation for down in mexico. But yeah i don't know if i told you about the mail down there, it isn't bad so yeah it takes like 12 days for regular mail to get here from there. So yeah it isn't bad just don't send anything to valuable if you send anything. Well i'm happy that the family is doing great at home!

Another week flew by in the MTC. It feels like i just emailed you guys yesterday and i don't have much to say but a lot of things have happened this week.

First off i got my travel plans!! I leave the mtc at 3 and our flight is at 6. We then fly to dallas fort worth and we have like a 2 or 3 hour layover. Then we leave there at like 1230 and fly to ciudad de mexico which will be awesome. We are there for SEVEN yes SEVEN hours. We have a huge layover in ciudad de mexico until we jump on a plane and fly to culiacan! We get to culiacan at like 10:05 so yeah i will be doing a lot of studying that day. Ha so i don't know what time i am going to call you guys. Email me back before 6 so that i can check it, if you have a good time for me to call you. But yeah i am pretty pumped. Oh and the culiacan aeropuerto only had dose
terminals. So it is going to be a ride on some ghetto little plane. I am pumped!! ha ha

This week a lot of stuff has happened.

On thursday our district taught a native district who is right across from us. It was a real eye opener. They spoke super fast and i blanked and forgot what i was talking about cuz me and my comp were pretty nervous. (yeah i know we have been here for 8 weeks) but yeah that was a not so good day. I was super frustrated and i had to go into the bathroom and i was on the verge of tears. It wasn't such a good day.

But ya know the next day was good cuz i just got over it and yeah. But also this week our district was shooting for a goal of 200 spanish lessons in a week. There was a district that left like a week after we got here and they got like 180 so we wanted to beat that. And i'm pretty sure that we got like 201 so that is pretty awesome. Cuz the week before this last week we only got 100 when our goal was 65 our teacher was pumped but i can't wait to see her tonight when we tell her we got 201 it is pretty amazing. Me and my comp are getting better and better at teaching by the spirit and not just teaching the lesson. He has been an excellent comp here in the mtc and i am very grateful for that. Hopefully my trainer will be sweet too and we get a long good which i know that we will.

I can't even remember what happened this week because it flew by so fast it is crazy. Pretty much our whole focus this week was teaching lessons. We have had some good times with our teachers and they are pretty sweet!

One funny story that happened this week was hermana durrant, her dad is Devin durrant if you know he played ball or something, but anyways we were about to begin our class and elder dubois was throwing candy to everyone and then elder rex was up and the front cuz he is our leader of the music, but elder dickson threw him one and she tried to catch it and we have rolly chairs that we got from the computer labs and she was on one of them and she ate crap and we felt bad! But she is cool and she laughed about it and she got the chocolate then she left and she came back and she taped the chocolate rapper on the board. It was great! but yeah...
I'm nervous for mexico cuz it is still hard to understand some of the things especially the natives! They speak super fast and yeah i know i will get used to it but i just want to get used to it right now.

I actually talked to rob for like a little bit right before he left. He seemed pretty excited but that sucks that he has a 20 hour layover! ha that is crazy!

I don't think anyone is coming in real soon that i know.. Bubba was suppossed to come in this week? that is wierd that he is already coming in. He probably would have been in our zone. but yeah...

Today at the temple we did our last endowment session for two years. It was great. I'm gonna miss the temple..Today also we ate in the cafeteria and we ate actually good food. It was legit! This last week has been some boring nasty food and the mtc and i am super sick of it. I am at 15 pounds now but i am expecting that i will lose it here in about 4 weeks. But did i tell you what happened two weeks ago in the temple? well i guess i messed up at the end ya know and the guy didn't correct me and i said it like twice and then when i went through then the guy like kind of got mad at me but yeah it's alright no hard feeling towards him just thought i would let you know that it happened.

Well family i think that is it. I'm excited to talk to you guys on monday. I think you are still forwarding this to the family and lexie right? if not then yeah that would be good i guess if you could do that cuz i don't have muc htime on here. Well i love you all and you are all in my prayers.

09/16 Letter

Hello Everyone,

Wow this last week flew by. But it is pretty much the same old same old here in the MTC. It is now week number 7. I will get my travel plans tomorrow!!! I'm pumped! We kind of already heard of how we are going to travel and stuff but i won't tell you them now cuz i don't know for sure so i will tell you next week and yeah i will plan on calling you in the morning. Lex sent me a calling card will that work for the home phone? or should i call your cell or something dad. Just let me know.I'm am so excited to go to mexico and do work.

It sounds like everything is going good at home. Katie is tearing it up in volleyball, tay is playing soccer and volleyball and school is going great for them. I take it work is going great for you and mom as well. So tell katie that for gym everyday i play sand volleyball. Ha it is legit and probably one of the more fun sports that there is. I tear it up!! HA ha just kidding.

Not a whole lot has happened this week. The same old same old, but yeah i am loving my teachers. They are way funny and make learning spanish and being in class all the time way fun. Hermano Gonzolaz kills me every time he speaks, cuz he sayts some funny stuff that i laugh at for forever.

So we have a teacher well he used to be a teacher in our zone and he came and talked to us the other day. He is very deep into doctorine so we love when he comes and teaches us. He talked about joseph and how he was so loyal to the lord but he got treated like crap sometimes. He compared us to him and how it is going to happen. I thought about it and i was like yeah it is but i don't care becuase already i love the people down there. I want it to happen so that i can be like hey i still love you and they will be like what i just made fun of you and stuff but i'm excited to try my hardest to be like Christ. It is an honor to wear his name on my nametag.

Spanish is coming so good! it is amazing at how much i have learned in the past 7 weeks. I can pretty much understand a whole lot of what people say. WE taught a native the other week and i understood a lot so that was good cuz he didn't slow down at all. But this week we taught an old guy but it was so amazing. we were supposed to teach the second lesson and the word of wisdom. The second lesson is the plan of salvation and i bet you know but anyways. So we started off with the word of wisdom and he said that he had a problem with drinking and stuff so we were on that topic for a while. WE usually have 30 minutes to teach and stuff so yeah. But what the cool thing was was me and my comp talked about the word of wisdom and the atonement the whole time. We didn't even teach the second lesson which might be bad but is way good, cuz we taught to the investigadors needs. It was a real great moment the spirit was there and it was sweet.
We got to hear from another apostle of the lord last night. Elder holland came and talked with us. He is an awesome guy. He talked for like 45 minutes at how important our missions are and how important his mission was to his life. I'm blessed with the oportunity to serve a mission. I am blessed that i was born with this wonderful gospel in my life and it is the only thing that brings true happiness! It's LEGIT!!

So that is pretty much my week. I feel like it is the same over and over and over again. That is why i'm excited to get out in the field and do real teaching and have some amazing stories to tell the family and stuff. Thanks for the gel that you sent with lexies package. I ran out today actually so it was great timing. I wouldn't worry about my medication becuase i don't think that i am going to take it anymore. I think that my acne is getting worst on it so i might stop it for a while and see if it clears up, but if it doesn't then i will take it again so maybe since it is 7 bucks send it? i don't know. But thanks anyways.

I don't think that i need anything esle. Also i found out how the mail is down in mexico. people in our district recieved letters from mexico this week and it took 11 days to get there. And my comp talked to his mom who talked to a kids mom that is in our mission and she said that he has recieved every package that they have sent. But yeah i would do the virgin mary thing just to be safe or something. Or try not to send something valuable. But yeah just thought i would let you know that. Mostly we will probably email back and forth cuz it is so much easier but yeah just in case you want to send something.

Thanks for the letters girls and mom. I'm gonna try and write back today as well. I think that is all for this boring email this week. Not a whole lot has happened. But yeah next week will be better and after that they all will be good.

I love you all and thank you for the support. I'm getting to the point where i have realized that i need to emerse myself into the work all the way. I have been but now i know the importance of it. I love you all and have a good week this week!

Should Have Posted 09/10

Family,

How is everything going? It is still going great here. Still working hard learning a lot and the spanish is coming to me even more. So it is thursday and yesterday was my p-day but it pretty much wasn't if you are wondering why you are getting an email from me on thursday. So yesterday we go do our normal thing in the morning, like go to the temple and personal study and what not. When we get back we usually go an email right then, me and my comp are trying to email and it just wouldn't let us in at all. It was pretty wierd so we were like ok we will come back. So we go get the mail cuz ya know my comp is the district leader but anyways we go get the mail and there is a not in it saying we needed to go the the travel office asap. So we did and they told us that we were going to salt lake city. So- we got of the rez!! Ha the reason we went there is because we went to the Mexican Consolate. So for sure we have our visas and stuff. So for sure we are going to Mexico! We also got fingerprinted and stuff but it also gave us a taste of what mexico is going to be like. This place was like a dump and so ghetto but it was ok cuz i'm excited to go to mexico anyways. But also there they spoke a lot of spanish and it was kind of a downer to listen cuz i didn't understand a whole lot of what they were saying. Ha but i still have 3 weeks to understand more so i will be fine.

It sounds like everything back at home is going great. With school and sports and work and all that it sounds like it is fun. But not as fun as learning about the gospel. I seriously have learned so much in these last 6 weeks. Like just things from the BOM or from chats when people ask us about life after death or stuff like that and i am just able to answer it and i wouldn't have been able to do that before coming out. It is amazing how much you can learn.
So Mountain Crest is tearin it up at football! that is good. it sounds like they will be good this year and might have a chance. Who does buda throw the ball to to have so many yards? I wish he was our quarterback when i was a senior that would have made the difference but oh well ya know.

It sounds like you guys had a fun time in park city except when katie brought that thing up. ha ha it just made me laugh cuz she always does that and i never would think that it was something i would miss but i do. I miss everyone.

I recieved the thing from all my friends. It was way cool to hear how they were doing. I emailed riley the last week but he just sent me a 15 word email back so yeah whatever. We don't have much time on these email things. But did you read it? Cuz if you did and you heard blake talk about the district and talk about jackie and how she is inactive now. When i read that i told my district and we all yelled NOOO for like 5 minutes it was pretty funny. But yeah it was cool to hear from them. I will be thinking of something to say or i will just tell how my week was for the next one. When are they doing it?

But yeah anyways...So you said something about kyle. And i feel like i should tell you this. I guess that before i left that lexie heard that he was dogging on me or something and so lexie texted him and yelled at him and told him he was stupid and not nice and stuff. But lex told me the other day that he is in one of her classes and i guess he text her after and was like apologizing to her about it and he asked for my address so that he could write me and stuff so i guess that will be interesting if he does. Just thought you should know that.

Did grandma and grandpa get my letter? i wrote them cuz they wrote me the other day so hopefully they got it. If they didn't, tell them that i wrote them just they didn't get it. But yeah i wish you were loaded as well dad, ha cuz my comp his dad is a doctor and he is loaded and one of our zone leaders grandma is loaded and yesterday he told us that he has 20000 in stocks. Yes 20,000 dollars. He said that for his birth he got 10 and for his graduation he got 10. Ha i was like dang i wish i had that in stocks right now but yeah it's alright i loved growing up just the way that we did. It has been a blessing in my life to have You and mom for parents. Really a blessing.
Yes it has been 6 weeks now, wow time flies by. I get my travel papers and stuff a week from today so i'm pretty excited. We have a district leaving this week on monday so yeah we are after them. Wahoo!

I have seen a lot of people that i know. But as you know bj is already out there, Boehme is already out there. Adam is already out there. Trapper crockett is here and i talk to him a lot. He went paintballing with us a lot so yeah i talk to him quite a bit. Other than that i haven't seen much people. Chase comes in on the 30th so i will just miss him. He will probably take my room or something. Ha that would be crazy.

This last week has been excellent. I don't really remember it a whole lot just because we do the same thing over and over but some things i remember. It flew by though.

Me and my comp taught a lot this week, but we teach in the TA every tuesday and this weeks was great. Our teacher is able to walk in and observe and give us feedback and she said that this week and the last week has been real different for us when we teach. She said that we are actually now teaching the investigator and not the lesson. It was awesome to hear that cuz that has been the toughest thing about it. So yeah there is one instance of how the spirit works.
Our district is way united and it is way fun. Me and Elder Rex are way good friends now and we have a ton of fun with each other and talk about a lot of stuff and help each other out. He has had a rough week this week just with spanish and missing his girlfriend but we talked and i helped him get through it. So yeah that will be friendship that will last after the mish as well as me and Elder Cope are way good friends as well. One funny thing about Elder Rex is that he wrote to elder Copes sister this last week and she wrote back and was very interested. It was way funny and we laughed about it for a while. But Cope didn't seem very happy but he really doen'st care we asked him about it.

So this last week, i might of got a stress fracture in my foot. It just started to hurt way bad and it has for a couple of days. If it continues to hurt i might go get it checked out but i don't think it is a big deal hopefully it goes away. Also i am starting to get a rash on my belly and arms. It has been there for about 3 weeks but now it is going away so that is good. Ha some crazy things have happened to my body while in here but yeah it will all work out great.

Not much more to report about my last week. I'm excited to leave and go to mexico and do the real work. Spanish is coming a long and it is going great i just have had faith.

But yeah if you could, even though i hate asking you guys for stuff, could you send me some more of that gel i am almost out or maybe two things of it. And also my pills if you want cuz i don't know how good the mail is down in mexico. My comps mom is going to find out cuz he has a friend down there right now so i will let you know how it is and stuff. Or you could even find out somehow.

Katie, Let her read this. Kate, i have heard some great stuff about volleyball and how you are tearing in up. Keep working hard and do whatever you can to get better. Don't worry about the older girls and how they talk crap cuz that is how they are. Just shut them up with your play on the court and keep tearin it up. I'm excited to watch you your junior year and senior year when i get back cuz you will be legit. Good work Sis!!

Dad do you forward this to drew, sky, and chel, and lex. If you could that would be sweet. Just an idea i think you might already do it.

I think that is it for this email. I love you all. Until next week.

Elder Harvey

5 Weeks in the MTC

Hola,

Como Estan? Everything is great here so far. It's crazy that yes it is 5 weeks already. This last week flew by so fast and i don't know where it went.
I will try and get you so stuff to give to sherry Crosbie. But i dont' really know like what. Just dearelder me some tips. Like just full letters to everyone? emails? or what? Just let me know and i will do that it will be sweet.

It sounds like sports is going good at the Harvey homestead. like always. That is one of the things i loved the most growing up was being so into sports it has prepared me well for the mish and what comes after it. It has taught me how to work hard. How did Katie's volleyball and taylors game go? the ones you couldn't tell me about it?

As for my travel plans it isn't a for sure thing. I know it is the 28th for sure. I think 630 in the morning becasue i think that is what time logan brown left so that is what i am thinking. And of course i will call the family it will be my first call so don't think that i wasn't going to because it didn't even cross my mind not to.

I miss the garden vegetables. The food here is getting so old and nasty. The same thing over and over and over. But whatever ya know. I think i am at like 11 pounds or something because yeah i eat a ton and my district always says wow or holy cow stuff like that. But yeah i miss the garden corn and even watering it.

It sounds like the babies are doing well. And it puts a smile on my face to hear about them and how they are talking a ton more and how they are riding trikes and cruizing around on whatever. What a blessing they are in my life both of them.

Did you guys have the opportunity to get away this weekend? Labor Day? if so where did you guys go? It is wierd here in the mtc you just forget what month and day and stuff it is because you are just always busy studying and they all feel like the same day. But it is great.
I'm glad ashlee found a job. Sky teases me about how they are working on a niece so, mom and dad if they start acting wierd about kids then yep they are pregenant. But that is great.

Now for my week. Nothing special really happened i don't think. I'll try and remember all the things that happened but i don't know if i will be able to cuz it wasn't nothing very special.
We got a new district leader and it is my companion elder cope. So i'm the district leaders wife ha ha. He is pretty much just in charge of getting the district news and getting the mail here in the mtc but i know in the field that it is totally different so yeah. I don't know if i told you that we got new zone leaders. They are also from our district. Elder grimm and elder dubois. The older district wasn't very happy about that but they are good and it's good that they came from our district i think.

Thank you for the package again i have a ton of candy and stuff now. Grandma sent me a package and letter as well so i am going to write her today. Inform her about me you could even give her my emails and stuff if you wanted but yeah.

Our teachers started school so we got a whole new schedule this week and yeah it is not as good i think. We have them a little less time for their teaching but it is ok. Spanish is coming along and we have taught the first lesson many times now. I am also getting just normal talking vocab down so that is good. Even though the last two weeks i feel like i haven't improved but i know i have but it is tough. It feels like i have just hit a wall. But prayer has helped a lot.

I don't know what else to say. this week wasn't anything special. I dont' know if i have told you that we chat on mormon.org. it is pretty awesome sometimes and how people are very interested in the church. They ask some questions and i have had some good ones where i commit them and they are willing to change and want to change. But at the same time i get a lot more terrible bad ones. Some people just get on their to argue and to down our church and stuff and it is so hard to not just be like "you're and idiot" and just get upset and yeah. It is tough but i know that Christ loves them so i do too. I have also had a ton of people taht are very crude and it just breaks my heart at how people can talk about Jesus Christ and God the way they do. But ya know ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I love them either way because they are children of god.
One thing that happened good this week was in the trc. Me and my companion actually taught the investigator and not the lesson in spanish. We have had a hard time with that, usually we just teach the lesson and not the person. So that was good the spirit helped a lot to direct us and i felt way good after that lesson.

The devotional last night was pretty good. Elder sybrowsky of the seventy. He talked about how we are indebted unto the lord. and it was great seeing how i am on a mission and yes i will be blessed and yes my family will be blessed but i still owe god everything becasue he has given me everything. Just remember that family that WE will always owe god, but at the same time God loves us sooooo much becasue of the choices we make.

I have heard that there is a hurricane in cabo? tell me about what happened or what not? i would love it if we got down there and did service for like a month, liek build houses or what not. I would love that but i will love teaching about the gospel as well.
I think that is it. Tell me how the family is doing and tell everyone i love them and to stay close the the gospel it is the only thing that brings true happiness. As well as families! Love you ALL!!!!

Hola Familia...

Hola,

Como estan? Muy bien aqui! Things are going great here. Can you believe it that it has already been 4 weeks. That is crazy it feels like it has all been one day. A lot has happened this week so i will try and get it all down in this email but i might now i have 20 minutes left so i will try.

First your email and letters. Thanks for all that you guys sent me in the package. I really needed shirts and stuff and the Dew is legit. Me and my companion got a fridge!! yes a fridge. We pulled some strings to get it but we got it and it is legit. So thanks for the package. As well mom you can send me another dose of that medication right now so that you don't have to send it to mexico in a month but whatever. Thanks for the package and the gel as well it is legit i love it.

Sounds like Katie is tearing it up on the volleyball court. Katie volleyball is voleibol in spanish just to let you know. but write on your ball "voleibol Techo" means volleyball stud. Or write it " Techo de Voleibol" Stud of volleyball. Keep tearing it up kate and keep working your hardest. There will always be the hazing cuz your a fresh but just remember that is becasue people are jealous. I tried so hard not to do it in high school but you think it is cool and i did it but it isn't cool becsause they benefit your team extremely so just show what you got on the court.

Tay thanks for the letter and for you playing the piano on the tape for me. It sounds like you are getting good and i'm excited to hear more. And wow 6th grade already geez you are the new most popular girl in the school i heard. That is awesome tay work hard!
Thanks for the advice about the tape. I think i am going to just do it on like wednesday or something i don't know yet i will decide soon but thanks for the words of caution. Cuz dad i know you are full of those. ha ha thanks!

Sounds like MC is going to be decent this year and it sounds like they will be better then we all think. I'm glad for them and yeah about dave i don't know what to say i guess that is how he is. But it sounds fun that you are taking stats ha ha not!

Now on to my week. So much has happened this week i don't know where to begin.

Spanish is coming more which is great. Our district plays this game called el nativo. Which is the native. We have to speak spanish all day except during gym and meals and it has helped a lot. It is a fun game and my team is losing.

Me and my comp had a chat this week which is through mormon.org and we talked to a lady that has been inactive and wants to get back into the church. We called back up on her on monday but she wasn't able to talk to her bishop so i shared my testimony and hopefully she gets back into the church. It is amazing how bad i want people to accept this gospel and it is amazing at how people are willing.

Me and my companion have gotten better at teaching the first lesson in spanish. Hopefully you got the tape that lex showed you of me teaching about joseph smith. It wasn't a lot but it was pretty good for 4 weeks i think. My teachers are so great and they have taught us a lot in the past four weeks and it has flown by. Brother gonzalaz is hilarious and we always laugh with him because he is an awesome chilean!

We got new Zone leaders this week and they are from our zone which no one saw coming. There was two zones above us and so we didn't see it coming. But they have been great. We get a new district today so that will be good and yeah. We also get a new district leader this week because it is half way so i will let you know who that is in my next week email.

Sunday we had our usual devotional and the guy that talked to us showed us almost all of the churchs commercials and it was one of the best talks that i have heard for awhile. It was funny as well as meaningful for my mission.

It was the best until yesterday night. We had the great privaledge to hear from Elder Richard G. Scott. Yes on the the 12. It was soooooo amazing and it taught me so much. He started off with a special blessing on us. Which he can do because he is an apostle and he blessed us with the gift of tongues so yeah im not worried about spanish anymore and i know i still have to do my part but wow that was amazing. As well as that blessing he blessed us with protection if we follow the spirit so taht was great and he emphasized it to the sisters but as well as to us. The thing that hit me the most was at the end of his talk he said "I know Jesus Christ lives, because i KNOW him" That was one the most powerful things i have ever heard and it strengthened my testimony a ton. He said it about 5 times and wow the spirit was amazing in that meeting.

I also went to the temple dedication on sunday at 3 and it was as well amazing. Us singing the last song was so powerful and brought tears to my eyes and strengthened my testimony about this church even more. This church is so true and it is amazing. The main thing of this church is the Atonement and i am so excited to share this message with the world.

Im thankful that you guys are keeping lexie in your lives i know she needs it dearly and it helps her not be so lonely so thank you. Keep it up!

I think that is all i have to say. Thank you for the letters and the emails. I did get the letters about butchs house this week. How is that going? they redoing it yet? so ya i got those letters and i felt bad for the guy.

Other than that how is everyone? how is the house? katie my iphone eh? i didn't think so? i'll think about it and let you know if you can use it? I love getting tapes because it feels like i am at home so that is great thanks for that. Other then that just fill me in about what will happen in this next week and i will report on my week next week as well.

This gospel is SO TRUE!!

I love you all and miss you as well. But i am loving it here and am loving my district a ton and it is going great. Love you all a whole lot! and i have been blessed with such a great family to support me! Love you!

Love,

Three Weeks In The MTC...

Hey Family,

It's been three weeks now and it has been some great three weeks. In this past week there has been a lot of things that has happened and i will try to get it down in this email but i might now be able to so yeah ill try hard though.

But first I will answer your questions. Care package- YES PLEASE!!! Like a ton of candy and you can even send me a 12 pack of dew and that would be great. My companion got like a 24 pack of dew this week and yeah i want some stuff. so please i would love it. I never recieved the article of the blow up at butch and kristens. But chel kind of told me more about it so yeah. Thats crazy and that guy isn't very smart for using laquer based primer. I wouldn't have had to turn off the pilot light becasue i use water based which is the safest. But im sorry for the guy and i have prayed for him a couple times. I pray for the family every time i say a prayer it helps me cope with the being away from everyone. And i know that you all pray for me and im very thankful for that. I hope that the prescription is on its way. I'm out of it on thursday and it is just starting to kick in. I take two a day so it is gone in like 30 days. Shirts- Yes t-shirts please i didn't bring enough. Also emails i think that the attachments get closed out as i click on it so try not to attach anything, but i would love to get pictures once in a while. email- i have 30 minutes on wednesday to email. I can print out emails and that is what i have done so i can log off and read them and spend all the time emailing so keep emailing. Thank you all for your letters and they are great to get. We always guess who gets the most letters in the day and the biggest package so we make it fun in our district.

Now on to my week, this week was great. I think on thursday we taught the first lesson in spanish and it went ok. I was very nervous and i had to use notes. Since then we have taught it like 4 times and i haven't used notes at all. (just to add to this, all other districts don't teach the first lesson in spanish until week 4 and we have already started and we have only been here for 2 weeks.) Im grateful for my teachers for pushing us. I fasted for help on thursday just with spanish in general and it has helped me SOOOOO much. Fasting is a real blessing if you do it the right way and you do it for the right reason. Im going to send a tape to lex of me teaching joseph smith and i will have her show you guys so it will be great.

Friday and Saturday just flew by, i don't even remember what we did. In my personal study i am going to try and read the BOM twice or once before i leave the CCM(MTC). the Bom is great if you follow along and it really is so amazing and has helped me while i have been here so much.
Sunday is always a good day. We have a lot of chill time where we just hang in our rooms and chill with each other. Me and Elder Rex are becoming real good friends and he is a stud. He was very down when he comp went home the first week but i've been here for him and we have gotten real close and im grateful for his example to me. He is such a stud. We usually go to bed early and so the lights are all off and usually me and him wrestle or mess with each other so it is a fun time at night right before bed. Also we had a guy come and speak to us we always have a devotional on sundays. It was good and he talked about faith. He did the first letter thing you know so like F is for Father in Heaven. A is for Accountability, I is for Inspiration, T is for Testimony and H is for Holy Ghost. He tied it into our missions very well and it tought me alot.
Monday is usually one of the longest days here. We have Hermano Gonzalez (aka Nico) teach us for like 4 hours straight. He taught us a lot on monday just like he teaches us a lot every day but on monday it was great. We did some more stuff to conjugation of verbs and it was good because i understood everything that he taught. I am starting to understand everything that him and Hermana Durrant teach and it is going great.

Yesterday we taught the second lesson which is the Plan of Salvation in English in the TRC. Me and my companion hadn't really practiced it at all so it went alright. Plus usually we teach fake investigators people who come volunteer but we had to teach our teacher which she just got back 4 months ago from her mission so she asked some pretty tough questions but we did alright. We also did our task in spanish. We have a task each week and they go pretty well if i rely on the spirit which i have been doing more since before.

Today we had Personal study and Comp study and went to the temple. I think this week i am going to read from PMG instead of BOM because PMG will help a lot in teaching. So ill let you know how it goes on wednesday.

Tell me some of the experiences that you have had without me. Dad you said you have been having them so tell me about them i would love to hear.
Also tay thank you for your email. It is great. Keep sending them. Oh and Katie no you can't have my iphone. ha ha. Also forward this to sky becasue i don't have his email address on me so if you could do that that would be great. Send it to Drew as well im almost out of time. Tahnks! Also how is everyone doing?

Thank you again for all of your support and help that you have been giving me. I love to get emails and letters. I'm printing my emails out from you and gonna try and keep them nice and stuff to have after the mish.

the more i think about it the more excited i am to go to mexico.

I love you all and please involve lex still. I love her very much and want her around when i get back so thank you for what you have done and keep doing it please
I love you all! Until next week!

2 Weeks In...

Missionary Legacy

Hey family,

Its p-day once again and this week went by really fast. I've been here for two weeks and i am loving it a lot. Im glad to hear about katie going to work her butt off at tryouts and i hope she works her hardest. I was so so so so happy when i got the tape from everyone and hearing the voices i laughed a couple of times because it was just awesome and made me feel at home even though im not.

Dad seriously go get your shoulder and knee checked out because if it is hurtin you that bad then you need to go and do something about it. it sounds like the high adventure camp sounded fun.

Its about time you sold that piece of crap car. How much did you guys sell it for? and did you get everything out of it before you sold it? like in the jockey box?

Have you been paid from brady? i hope so because it's been awhile and i hope that you don't forget to pay off that stuff that i still owe money on. Please do that asap if you will thank you.

Jeeping sounds like it was fun. When i get back im so gonna buy a jeep so we can all go all the time. Im jealous that you guys are going to be going to moab but it's alright i will be serving the lord which is even better ha! Just think about it 37 inch tires, four door, huge lift, massive crawling capacity. Yep don't laugh because i will make it happen.

Thank you for involving lexie still that means a lot to me that you guys love her just as much as i do. Please continue to do it as long as she wants it.

I do get everyones letters and they are a great part of the day. Tay thank you for the letter recently and i am glad that you like waking up and being home alone, i always liked it. Continue to email and write and i will try and answer all questions and let you know what has happened within the week.

My schedule of the week: On mondays we wake up at 630 and we have service for an hour or hour and a half i can't remember. The mtc is the cleanest place on earth i bet. Then we have breakfast every morning at 815. After taht we have LGMs every monday where they teach us how to be better missionaries. Then at 1015 we have personal study where i just read the scriptures, i have started the bom again which is awesome. Then we have companion study, then we have missionary directed time where we decide what we do and stuff. That is always great as well. We then have lunch and then our teacher for like 5 hours where we learn spanish constantly. One of my teacher is Hermano Gonzalez, he is very good at teaching us spanish and he pushes us to speak spanish always which no other district does taht so it is good. We have dinner at 6. The food is alright like you guys know but nothing like yours dad. I have GAINED 9 pounds or around there already. Im shooting for 30 or more. ha ha. We also have an hour of language study on monday to work on spanish.

Tuesday we have all the same stuff except different order and no service or lgm. Instead of those things we have gym in the morning which i ball up and stuff and that is a stress reliever. And we also teach in the trc. The trc is where we go teach fake investigators tasks and lessons. This weeks was terrible. We were supposed to get to know someone in spanish and i blanked and got pissed at myself cuz i didnt' say a dang thing. It was very frustrating. But the first lesson went well. This next tuesday we teach the second lesson and my and my companion teach the first lesson on thursday in SPANISH!!! Im nervous. Also on tuesdays we have the opportunity to listen to a general authority speak. This weeks was Elder Snow of the seventy. His talk was way good and he gave us seven things to work on as missionaries. And he talked about how we have to choose the lord and not ourselves. It was great.

Wednesday is p-day and we go to the temple and we do laundry and write many letters and email. I did the sealing room today which it was way cool and im looking forward for the day when i get to kneel with my wife and be sealed for all eternity. Im also grateful that i was born into the covenant because there are many blessings that i have recieved because of it.

I am going to be sending some pictures home just so you guys can see so they will be coming in the mail soon.

Thursday is all the same just no service and more MDT (missionary directed time) I usually read the scriptures a lot and that is amazing and i encourage the family to read the BOM as a family all the way through.

Fridays are also the same just a ton more class time. My other teacher is Hermana Durrant who just got back from her mission 3 or 4 months ago. She pushes us in the gospel doctrines which kinda evens out Gonzalezs teachings. So they are both great.

Saturday is almost the exact same as friday just different order.

Sundays we have priesthood and sacrament and stuff instead of class. It is a resting day and very nice to have.

Im running out of time so i will write you with the pictures and tell you about my district and my comp some more. I love you all and thank you for your support. Im excited to hear from you soon. Love you guys!

First email...

Hey family,
How is everything going at home? How are the girls doing? How are Damian and Trev doing they still more cute then ever?
Well everything is going great here. it's been a week and it has been great. The first 3 days were the longest days of my life we just had orientation after orientation after orientation. But since then it has been great. Sundays are great because we do nothing really we just have a ton of free time and so we just chill in our rooms. We had an elder go home the other day but it was for the good reasons. He was very funny and we all miss him a lot. This place is awesome and the spirit is so strong here. My p-day is today (Wednesday), we got to go to the temple and that is always amazing so it has been a good day so far.
The food here is alright but not the best not as good as yours dad not even close but i can live with it. My companion is Elder Cope and he is way cool and fun to be comps together with. We are studying hard and we are learning spanish pretty fast we taught our first lesson to a investigator proxy on tuesday and it went great i think. It was in english so that was good but soon we will have to do it in espanol. Spanish is actually coming to me, ive learned a lot in 7 days a lot more then at school and i actually remember it so that is good. How is katie and taylor doing? They getting ready for school? I heard lex went with the girls shopping and i just wanna say thank you for keeping here in the family and keep doing it please. Dad i just wanna thank you for the things that you have taught me. everything you have taught me will help me on my mission and i can guarantee that and thank you again. Mom thanks for always being there for me even though i was way obnoxious all the time. Your the best mom that i could ever ask for and i wouldn't trade you for anything i love you very much. Kate and Tay be nice to mom and dad and don't argue with them do what they ask and i promise you will be blessed from the lord if you do. Obey your parents is a commandment and you will be blessed. Also girls good luck at school don't be shy and just be yourself and you guys will love it. Also work hard in school because i wish that i would have worked harder then i did. also family check out dearelder.com if you want to get me letters faster but it is up to you on what you guys do. It is wednesday and i still haven't got a letter from you so i am expecting one later today or tomorrow so yeah. But i just want to tell the family of how great this gospel is and how grateful i am to be serving a mission. I've never been this close to the lord and it is the best feeling in the world. Keep me in your guys prayers and i will keep you in mine as well. This gospel is so true and the book of mormon is true as well as joseph smith was a true prophet and thomas s monson is our true prophet right now. Tell everyone i love them im going to be writing a lot of them while i do my laundry. I love you all and hope to talk to you soon!

First Words...

We got two letters from Chris last weekend - just a few days after he'd left. A quick note telling us that he had already received a confirmation from the Spirit that he was where he was supposed to be, and a Thank You card/note. When they met with their Branch President and his wife, she gave them all Thank You cards to send to their parents.

I haven't had time to go through the pictures we took on the Wednesday when we dropped him off at the MTC but will try to do that in the next few days, and post some here.
